Fact Liverpool presented all saturdays during the month of August, 5 world renowned anime movies, owned by Studio Ghibli.

Opening our Ghibli season is Princess Mononoke on 10 August. Set in the Japanese Middle Ages, the film pits ancient mountain gods against the industry and factories that are taking over the countries landscape.

One of the more recent films from Studio Ghibli, Ponyo is showing on Saturday 17 August. Based on the story of The Little Mermaid, Ponyo is a Goldfish who runs away from her home under the sea.

Spirited Away, showing on 24 August, is the most successful Anime film ever, earning Studio Ghibli their first Oscar win on it’s release in 2001.

Based on the novel of the same name by Diana Wynne Jones, Howl’s Moving Castle is showing on Saturday 31 August. An unconfident young woman is cursed by an angry, spiteful witch turning her into an old woman and her only chance to reverse the spell is a young wizard and his friends, aboard a giant castle that walks around the Japanese Countryside.

Completing the season on 7 September is My Neighbour Totoro. It’s one of the best-loved family films of all time and is widely considered to be one of Studio Ghibli’s best movies.
